It can be difficult for foreigners to get a loan for housing from a Cambodian provider. Whilst plenty of banks and small lenders offer these financial services for locals, there are fewer that cater to the requirements of foreign buyers.

There are plenty of options for micro-finance, for example a loan for setting up a small company. However, amounts of money available for borrowing tend not to stretch to property buying. What’s more, most of these are tailored towards locals rather than foreigners.

All of these banks provide services in English and specialise in the international market.

Cambodian banks normally lend up to 60% of the value of the property, on which there is annual interest of around 10-12%. However, the difficulty in getting a loan as a foreigner can mean that the best option is to go with an international provider, such as HSBC.
