renting a car

Is it worth renting a car in Romania? I am vacationing there with my family at the end of August and am trying to decide whether to rent a car or just book train tickets around the country. I have heard the countryside is beautiful, so maybe driving would be a better way to see the sights. Thanks for the suggestions.
