HSMP extension

I received my HSMP visa in September 2007 and will apply for an extension after 1 April 2009. Given the new Tier 1 rules concerning the requirement for a Master's degree (and I do not have a Master's degree), will I qualify for an EXTENSION. Accept that I meet all other requirements such as earnings etc.

If my HSMP visa expires end of September 2009, how far in advance should one apply for an extension? Is there any limit?
