New Work Permit approved and Old Visa extended

• Hi,
  
  i am working with an indian based company on WP and my company applied for a Visa extension and it got approved and my passport has sent for Visa extension
  but mean time i selected another UK company and they got New work permit based on my current work permit
  my question is, can i hold two work permits at same time? i still want to continue some time with my current company and after two three months i want to shift into new company.
  
  can you please advise?
